The rapid emergence of China in the last two decades and its impacts on the U.S. will likely be the most consequential geopolitical event of our lifetimes. Given the scope and complexities of the changes that have and will occur, this foreign policy lecture and discussion group will provide an opportunity for participants to better understand the issues that confront the U.S., discuss alternative U.S. responses, and become the informed citizens that our democracy depends upon. Among the topics that this class will address are: “China’s Grand Strategy”, the “Belt and Road” initiative, “Made in China 2025”, Huawei controversies, China’s military and soft foreign policy initiatives, U.S./China trade war, coronavirus pandemic, the China surveillance state, and more, depending upon interests and time.
