PERSONAL FINANCE AND RETIREMENT
Every Tuesday • 3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. • Shapiro Wing Room CD
Coordinator: Jim Kashiwada
This course is for retired or soon to be retired individuals who want to learn about personal finance, making wise investment decisions and avoiding unexpected financial risks. We will start with seven classes on the basics of financial planning and the rules investors should keep in mind and follow. We will cover the many types of investments, from fixed income investments, bonds, stocks, and mutual funds, to IRA's and annuities. We will also explore portfolio diversification, keeping up with inflation, ways to reduce investment taxes and how to make sure our money lasts as long as we do. A personal financial planning binder will be provided for this portion of the course. The last five classes of the course are for those OLLI members who enjoy discussing and learning more about investing in Company Stocks and Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs). We will start with a series of class discussions led by Kermit Hollingsworth on the Little Book that Beats the Market by Joel Greenblatt and finish the course with several financial topics of specific interest to our class participants.
