This engaging, fun, life changing program will teach us to appreciate what matters most to ourselves, our dreams, our goals, and how to enjoy the exciting times ahead. If we develop a few goals and plans for these years, this transition into retirement will be smoother and much more fulfilling. This series of classes will provide some structure and professional aid in planning for this exciting future.

Finding Relevance in Retirement – Presentation and Panel Discussion

Speaker: Bonnie Olsen, Ph.D., UC Irvine Health Center Clinical Psychologist

Why retire? When to retire? Already retired? What's changed? What's next? This presentation will address changes during life using models such as Maslow's Hierarchy of Human Needs and Carl Jung's work on midlife crisis. We'll focus on the process, not just the end goals.
Dr. Olsen will share her expertise in helping people anticipate, adapt and cope with change in a volatile environment.
After the break, Dr. Olsen will facilitate a panel of recent retirees to share and discuss the transitions involved in moving toward and achieving the retirement that best suits individual needs.

Hoarding and Cleaning Out the Clutter

Too Much Stuff! – When Saving Overwhelms Living. Topics to be discussed include the warning signs of hoarding behavior, the dangers of excessive clutter and the differences between collecting clutter and hoarding behavior.
After the break, the class will focus on cleaning out the clutter and getting organized. Are you spending too much time looking for lost items or stressing about too many things piling up? People can be affected in many ways both physically and emotionally if excess clutter is allowed to take over. Clutter Cleaners can help you with information on how to de-clutter your house, get organized and learn how to stay organized. The speaker will highlight how to get started by setting your priorities, breaking projects down into manageable sizes, establishing deadlines and rewarding yourself.

Join Susan Randolph, nutritionist, to learn how you can stretch your grocery dollar and eat delicious and nutritious meals without busting the bank.

We play many roles in our lives. But these roles can be confusing, vague, even outdated. When that happens we lose sight of “who we are.” This workshop will give us a chance to evaluate our current identities and explore the age-old existential question, “Who Am I?”

Retirement and the New Digital Media

This survey class will explore social media and their use by Boomers to expand their communication efforts with friends, families and others. Specific communication tool to be described or demonstrated include:

* Instant messaging and Twitter
* Facebook, My Space and LinkedIn (online social networks)
* Online photo albums (Flickr)
* YouTube (video sharing)
* Genealogical websites

All of these tools are free to those with Internet access. At a time when many Boomers fear losing contacts, social media technology provides a new tool for building convenient connectivity and robust relationships with others.
